WOMENS SURF EVENT GREAT SUCCESS
(IN brief – official press release from SSA to follow)
Well done to SSA for putting on this Women’s event! The Girls / ladies loved the weekend and it went down incredibly well!
Event was very well supported with around 70 entries from tiny young 7 year old girls to much older Moms taking part.
Event was moved from Durban to Bronze Beach Umhlanga Rocks due to the fact that the shark nets are still not back in place on the Durban Beached.
Bronze Beach was a fantastic venue and many families had a great weekend. Beautiful sunshine and lovely beach weather.
Surf conditions were challenging onshore 3-4 foot. Tim Lubbe the head judge was amazed at how brave and determined the young rookies were who took part.
It was especially good to have had the event today – one day after local hero HEATHER CLARKE won the World Championship again yesterday, and most of the girl surfers were so inspired by her result.
Standout surfers in the event were:
Chanelle Botha – who placed 1st in the u16 girls, and 2nd in the u20 girls divisions.
Tamarys De Maroussem also surfed really well – securing her win with an 8 point ride in the finals – lovely to see her back in the line up after having two kids, and still capable of such great surfing.
