WAVE WIZARDS JUNE EVENT HUGE SUCCESS!
The 2nd contest of the 2010 Wave Wizards Surf Club series was staged on a near perfect ‘natal winters’ day at Umhlanga’s bronze beach on recently!
Warm water and clean 2-3ft waves earlier in the day made for a highly contested and exciting showdown in all divisions. However the East picked up and flattened the ocean but the waves were still contestable.
The real spectacle of the day was the premier open division. With the likes of Beyrick De Vries, Chris Leppan, Mark Shepperson and Haydn MacNicol putting on a truly world class display of surfing, and pushing each other to execute some unbelievably radical maneuvers. Close friends and rivals Chris Leppan and Beyrick de Vries were going head to head for the win, however it was Chris who emerged victorious over Beyrick De Vries, thereby taking home the winners cheque of R1000 and 1000 series points. Beyrick placed 2nd with R750 and a Butcher Boys meal voucher, Haydyn MacNicol won R500 and Mark Shepperson R250. All prize money in this division was sponsored by Carls Foods.
Kulu Swimwear sponsored cash money in the open ladies division, and Helen Mackay was the proud victor. In second place came Caryn MacNicol. All the five finalists were also treated to bikinis from Kulu Swimwear.
There was also a Masters Division, U18 boys, u14 boys, u10 boys, jnr girls and u10 girls divisions. However there were also two new additions to the event. The first was a “Mom’”s division. Four Moms paddled out and impressed the younger kids with their tenacity and courage! The second new addition to the event was Masters Expression Session, and BMD Entertainment put up R500 cash for various prizes.
The prize giving and lunch (Sushi – Kindly supplied by the Bamboo Sushi Lounge) was held at the new Hurricane Surf Store at the Buxtons Centre in Umhlanga, and was supported by a large crowd of surfers and parents.

Wave Wizards surfers all got incredible prizes from the sponsors Hurricane Surf, Hurley, Bamboo Sushi Lounge, Butcher Boys, Just Deserts, Carls Foods, Kulu Swimwear and Oasis Aqua.
