Roll With RVCA Presented By Natural Energy Surf Shop Another Great Event

The Roll With RVCA event in The Strand had barrels, high scoring rides, loads of fun and plenty of wind for what was the third event in this popular grassroots surfing series. The waves were were in the two to three-foot region, and even when the wind had picked up to full strength, there were still highly contestable waves coming through and contestants were clocking up some high scores.

Once again there were plenty of entrants for the event, which topped off at 72 surfers entered. All age groups were represented and every division, from Retros to Ladies to Ballies, were having a go at this fun event. To add to it all, there were a number of happenings on the beach as well, such as Board Art and General RVCA Knowledge amongst others, which added to the fun-filled vibe. With R10,000 worth of RVCA product in the prize pool, the gathered surfers took to their heats with gusto.

The Open Men saw some red-hot surfing, with the guys linking turns and finding the odd barrel or two. It was won by Tommy Kruger from Luke Parr, Franco Venturino and Daniel Mace.

In the highly competitive U19 Division top honours went to Andrew Smith, who beat Justin Torrode into second place. JP Olivier and Michael Paris were in the minor positions.

The U16 Division was fun and games, with a number of surfers way under the age limit, but having a go anyway. The winner was Steffen Burrows who is thirteen years old. He beat ten-year-old Adin Masencamp into second. Tristan Levis is eleven and he came third, and fifteen-year-old Stephen Steyn came fourth.

The Ladies Division was won by the consistent and dynamic surfing of Tanika Hoffman, who beat Sarah Havard, Penny Stemmet and Lisa Mace into second, third and fourth places respectively.

In the Retros it was Philip Nel who claimed victory from Geoff Greaves, with Jamii Hamlin and Luke Parr in the minor slots, while The Ballies Divisions saw perennial riper Gunter Schultz take the win from Jamii Hamlin, with Francois Frik in third.

"Another great event ," said RVCA's Arno Lane. "We're just so stoked that everyone still turned out despite the fierce wind. We're looking forward to the next event in the series. Thanks to Taryn and Shane from Natural Energy Surf Shop for presenting this event."

The Roll With RVCA series is hosted by Zigzag Magazine, and event images will be uploaded on the RVCA portal on www.zigzag.co.za, as well as on the various RVCA media platforms and outlets.

The Roll With RVCA event at the Strand is sanctioned by Boland Surfing Association, which is a member of Surfing South Africa, the governing body for the sport.

About RVCA
RVCA is the brainchild of company Founder and Creative Director, PM Tenore. Transcending the boundaries of traditional action sports apparel, RVCA is a design-driven lifestyle brand free from passing trends. Appearing as a natural on the shelves of boutiques as on those of a local skate shop, RVCA is brought together by a group of likeminded individuals from various subcultures, a collaboration of sorts, a lifestyle within itself.
PM Tenore's intention from the very beginning has been to create a platform for RVCA, which combines art, music, fashion and a modern lifestyle in an original way. At the forefront of this vision has been RVCA's Artist Network Program (ANP) - a venture established to showcase the talents of accomplished as well as unknown artists who inspire our generation and push the boundaries of creative excellence.
Established to promote the genuine integrity of RVCA's subcultures while simultaneously giving back to the community, RVCA in essence is redefining the way the market views art and fashion as represented through the balance of opposites and how they coexist: water, oil; air, land; destruction, industrialization; art, science; foreign, domestic; order, anarchy; past, present.
For RVCA, it is about today, tomorrow and life as the big picture. It is about inspiring our generation, providing something of substance and culture and above all doing it with integrity and as a united family, a close-knit community.
