BLOSSOM CANOLA FUN SURF SERIES HAS RECORD ENTRIES! Print

BLOSSOM CANOLA FUN SURF SERIES HAS RECORD ENTRIES!

group

The Blossom Canola Fun Surf Series got off to a very successful start on Sunday when over 125 surfers representing over 40 schools in KZN took part in good surf conditions at Bay of Plenty Beach in Durban.  There were so many competitors that KZN Surfing had to hold the contest over three podiums.

The surf was clean  2-3 ft  and with light SW onshore winds the waves were very contestable and fun for the surfers.  Kids from as young as 7 yrs old took part and the Dads were kept very busy helping them in the water.

Over 25% of the field of surfers comprised of development surfers with a large proportion coming from the Umthombo Street Children’s home.  The kids were treated to fun and games and lots of prizes sponsored by various companies such as Lizzard, Palmers, Lipton Ice Tea, Quiksilver, Roxy, Rip Curl, Hurricane, and Larmont Surf Shop donated vouchers for the finalists.

Liquifruit sponsored a surfboard which was raffled and the lucky winner was Ethan Krause (9 yrs) from Umhlanga College.    KZN Surfing also raffled a hamper to raise funds for World Champion Surfer Heather Clarke who was in a car accident recently and managed to raise over R1000 towards her medical bills.  Darren Sykes was the lucky winner of the hamper.

Gerrit Snyders from Blossom Canola was down at the beach and said “It is really great to see so many kids from various backgrounds enjoying this event.  This is a really healthy lifestyle and we are really pleased to be involved with surfing.”

The second event in this series will be taking place on Sunday 22 November.  For full results and information on other upcoming events such as the Lizzard Tag Event on Sunday 1 November please go to www.surfingsouthafrica.co.za
