2009 KZN SURFING AWARDS
The KZNSA Awards was held at the Natal Sharks Board recently and over 220 people attended. From the u12 division right up to the Vets (over 55) were present and all surfers and family members had a great evening celebrating their places in the various teams.
The hall was decorated with the help of Kim Monks, Lesley Lane, Kelly Johns, Bev & Amber Hogg, Lynette Stander and Leanne Wallace. Tim Hordyk did an excellent job of the music and Sean Smit was on duty to sort out the slide show of photos. Stephanie Leppan and Annie de Vries helped out at the door and Meryl de Sousa, Carol Bennewith and Kerry Cullinan did an super job of handing out trophies, certificates and ties and badges. A record 23 new caps were awarded!

Anne Wright (chairman) opened up the evening with a warm welcome speech and the awards got underway. Every surfer in the room was given the chance to address the audience with their names, and surfing passion. Starting with the Masters, going through to the open, u20 and then the juniors all divisions got their chance up on stage.
KZNSA celebrated the win of the 2008 Juniors and the 2009 Seniors Presidents Cups. (KZN being SA Champion province in both divisions). Our Masters are off to Mossel Bay in October and the team is looking strong and positive and will be managed by Fred le Roux.
Graham and Luellen Smith – parents of our great international surfer Jordy Smith were there to do the announcing of the special awards. It was fantastic having them there to inspire our younger surfers on the road ahead in their competitive surfing.
