JBU Speed Trials To Run During The Xcel Pro 2010

Jeffrey's Bay - Adding a new twist to the innovative Xcel Pro Showdown At Supertubes event, there is now a R5,000 rize for the fastest surfer at Supertubes. Utilising new technology, there is now a method to record a surfer's speed at Supers and JBU have thrown down the prize money for the fastest surfer in the water.

"The technology that the JBU has is not new in a sense that it has been tried and tested on other boardsports," said Xcel's Koffie Jacobs. "It is however the first time it has been applied to the sport of surfing and the first time we will be able to accurately measure the speed of a surfer at Supers."

Decidedly guarded with regards the technology and equipment to be used, Jacobs mentioned that it utilises GPS. "It will be interesting to see the legitimate speeds these guys can get up to," said "Jacobs, "and who needs to maybe think of upgrading to a channel bottom."

Details of the JBU Speed Trials will be released soon.

The Xcel Pro is sanctioned by the EPSC and Surfing South Africa, the governing body of the sport.
