Invited Surfers Announced for the 2010 Roxy Invitational presented by Saltwater GIRL

South Africa – The surfers invited to the 2010 Roxy Invitational presented by Saltwater GIRL Magazine have been announced. A mix of new faces, title holders, experienced pro’s and young blood make up the 2010 invitees list. The ten slots for this event are possibly the most coveted and sought-after slots for competitive female surfers in South Africa, with everyone wanting a chance to compete in perfect Mozambican waves for some great prize money.

This year sees the event moving further north then in previous years to a location in Mozambique that offers yet another perfect right-hand point break. Only one day of good waves is required to surf the event and decide a winner and the event will not run unless the ocean delivers. The event is all about getting the best female surfers competing in serious waves. The first prize for the event is R10,000..

This year the event will take place from 23 May – 01 June in Tofinho (Tofo), a classic right-hand point break with warm water and beautiful beaches. The girls will be housed at the Turtle Cove Resort in Tofo (www.turtlecovetofo.com) that offers all sorts of activities apart from surfing. Yoga, skin diving and horse riding amongst others. Still, with R10k first prize there will be a lot of attention on finding that winning edge in the water.

Surfers selected for the Roxy Invitational 2010 include young talent Sarah Baum who placed 2nd in 2009 behind Reunion’s Canelle Bulard as well as Kommetjie’s two goofy-foot stand-outs Taryn Chudleigh and Chantelle Rautenbach. The Australian duo of Philippa Anderson and Paige Haggerston will be making the long journey over to experience the Mozambican culture and to compete against the best females South Africa has to offer.
