Oakley Pro Junior 2010 Fast Facts

What -
The Oakley Pro Junior 2010 is a World Pro Junior Grade 2 event, encompassing both Boys and Girls divisions, and a total prize pool of US$12,500 (R93,000). It forms part of a global qualifying series to find the top juniors in the world to compete in the Oakley Pro Junior in Bali in October. There will also be the Red Bull Air Show throughout the event, with a semi-final on Friday and one on Saturday. The Red Bull Air Show finals will run on Sunday, before the Oakley Pro Junior main event finals. More information and images can be found on the Oakley Facebook Fan Page

Why -
Oakley have long supported junior surfing in South Africa, and this event is a continuation of this support. Junior surfing is where it's at, and top level junior competitive experience paves the way for our young surfers, and sets them on their professional surfing careers.

Who -
The best junior surfers in the country, with some title defenders in the mix.

"The Oakley Pro Junior is back," said Mathew Quinn, Oakley South Africa's Sports Marketing Manager. "It's bigger and better in 2010 and we are looking forward to three days of the country's best junior surfers, boys and girls, going head to head to win the title of Oakley Pro Junior. Good luck to all the competitors, and let's see if Shaun Joubert can make it three out of three."

Where -

The contest will take place at Port Alfred, with East Beach being the primary location. East Beach has a great right-hander off the Kowie River Mouth, and has been known to throw a serious barrel or two as well.

When -

The event is set to take place from 30 April to 2 May 2010. All the contest information, images and contestant profiles can be viewed on the event website - http://oakleyprojunior.com - The weekend looks promising for surf at this stage, with some great swell predicted for the Port Alfred area. Oakley's Greg Emslie has been tracking the swell, and is extremely confident that excellent surf is set for Port Alfred. "We have solid waves predicted for the weekend," said Emslie. "There are great sandbanks around, and the winds should be offshore for most of the weekend as well. These are the conditions that will really bring out the best in the junior surfers, and we are looking forward to an epic contest."

ASP Africa sanctions the Pro Junior division.
