Roxy Pro Gold Coast Feb 26 to March 10 Print

Roxy Pro Gold Coast Feb 26 – March 10

Gold Coast, Australia – The first event of the Women’s ASP World Tour, the Roxy Pro Gold Coast, is all set to go on the 26 February 2010. Warm water, beautiful beaches and perfect waves (courtesy of the Gold Coast City Council sand-pumping scheme) make this one of the most anticipated events of the year. On top of this, the first event of the year is where standards are set, where break-out performances originate and where exciting surfing takes place.

With the sand pumping happening at full speed, there will most definitely be a good sand bank at Snapper for the girls. If the waves don’t come to the party, there is always the consistent Duranbah just around the corner as the alternative event venue. Duranbah is a peaky beach break which allows for some good barrels as well as high performance surfing.

Two girls from South Africa are entered into the Roxy Gold Coast event 2010. For young World Tour rookie Nikita Robb it is her first event. The young goofy footer is talented and determined and could easily blow some minds at the event. Seasoned Roxy team rider Rosy Hodge, however, is the surfer that everyone is going to be watching. With her natural, flowing style and the fact that she grew up surfing right-hand waves like this in her home town, Rosy could be the surfer to really blow up at this event.

“I’m psyching for the Roxy Pro,” said Rosy. “I stayed in Hawaii to surf and train, so now I’m really looking forward to Australia.”

Rosy has new equipment and has been training hard for the 2010 season. “I heard that they have been pumping the sand and that the waves have been good. I’m really keen to bask in the warm water and pick off a few waves from the crowd. I’m also really excited about the new boards I got from Spider recently.”

Roxy South Africa marketing Manager Candice Mac Nicol is also confident that Rosy will do well in the event. “Rosy is in great shape at the moment, and is very enthusiastic about making her mark this year,” said Mac Nicol of her number one rider. “Her style of surfing really suits the Superbank and she could be the one to beat this year.”

The Roxy Pro Gold Coast is the first event of the 2010 World Tour, which consists of 9 events at world class locations around the world. The event will be covered by the live webcast, and spectators anywhere in the world can watch the event from their computer screens. The website is http://www.roxypro.com.au and the webcast link can be found on the event homepage.
