Volcom Pipeline Pro Hawaii Jan 2010 Print

Volcom Pipeline Pro, Hawaii, Jan 23 - Feb 5

Hawaii - Volcom is proud to announce the first ever Volcom ASP-sanctioned professional surfing event, the Volcom Pipeline Pro. A 5-star US$120,000 ( R900,000) World Qualifying Series event, this contest will open the 2010 professional surfing season on the North Shore of Oahu, Hawaii. The competition will be held on the three best days of surfing during the January 23 through February 5 period.

"We are so excited for this opportunity," said Brad Dougherty, Volcom Surf Brand Director. "It really is the next step for the surf division of Volcom. Ever since we secured the houses at Pipeline I knew the time would come to do a major contest out front."

Marketing Manager for Volcom South Africa, Mark Campbell, was equally excited about it.
"We are stoked about the contest. The Volcom house at Pipeline has always looked after our South African riders. Last year saw top South African Volcom team rider and ASP Africa Pro Junior Champ, Chad du Toit, earn a spot in the coveted Volcom House for the winter Hawaiian season. Whether we have any of them entering the competition or not, it promises to be a huge event and and could go off in firing Pipe conditions. It's also great to see Volcom stepping up and helping the local Hawaiian surfers to get a foothold onto the World Tour."

The $120,000 Volcom Pipeline Pro offers a first place purse of $16,000 (R120,000) as well as valuable ratings points that will give competing surfers a foothold in the pursuit for World Tour qualification and a spot in the 2010 Vans Triple Crown of Surfing.
