2008 Reef Wetsuits South African Schools Championships
Surfing South Africa's annual Interschools event
Muizenberg Pavilion, Cape Peninsula
Saturday and Sunday, October 25 & 26

Honours go to Durban High School and Sun Valley Primary School in the 2008 Reef Wetsuits SA Schools Championships

Muizenberg Pavilion provided perfect conditions for the annual Reef Wetsuits SA Schools Championships at the weekend (October 25/26) as 16 schools from all parts of the country participated in one of the longest running events on the Surfing South Africa calendar.
Perfect weather and contestable 3 foot surf were ideal conditions for the team format used in this event as once again Durban High School showed their class and dominated the Main final, successfully defending the title they won at the same venue in 2007.
The powerful DHS side, comprising an all star lineup of Chad du Toit, Scott le Fevre, Jason Pender, Kane Bennewith, David van Zyl and Roger Allison posted a massive score of 132.7 to the 107.4 of second placed Fellowship College of Melkbosstrand.

SARAH BAUM, SCOTT LEFEVRE AND HEIDIE PALMBOOM GET GREAT RESULTS IN REUNION!

GO TO GALLERY TO SEE PICS OF THE TRIP:

A few of our SA Surfers flew over to Reunion recently and took part in the Quiksilver Eco Challenge. The surfers all had an incredible time and came back with many stories about how outstanding the waves are there. (mainly a left)
Surfers that went were Scott lefevre, Beyrick de Vries, Devin Lane, Heidi Palmboom, Tanika Hoffman and Sarah Baum.

All surfers have said they would love to go back there and that the hospitality from Fabrice and all the members of the St-Leu-Surf Club was amazing.
Go to the picture gallery to see pics of Reunion.
The plan is for Reunion team to come over to SA next year, and then we go back to Reunion in 2010 with a fully organized team of u12 to u20 surfers!

Sarah Baum won her u14 girls division and Heidi came 4th in the u16 girls division. This is a great result for the girls as the standard of girl surfing in Reunion is very high.

Scott Lefevre got a 2nd in the u16 boys which is excellent as he beat world class surfers such as Maxine Hugonot who recently won the King of the Groms in France.
Results of surfers from SA:

Boys - 16, Kieran Bulard, Scott Lefevre, Maxime Huscenot, Olivier Foucque
Girls - 14, Sarah Baum, Jessie Albert, Zoé Glasenap
Girls -16, Johanne Defay, Canelle Bulard, Tanika Hoffman, Heidi Palmboom
Girls -18 , Johanne Defay, Canelle Bulard, Johanne Panzini, Tanika Hoffman

NORTHSWELL COMP POSTPONED
NORTH SWELL CONTEST UPDATES:

Unfortunately the North Swell Club Contest was postponed from Sunday 26 October due to dreadful conditions. The NE was howling and the general consensus was to cancel as the surf was blown out.

The next contest will be on SUNDAY 23 NOVEMBER. This is the weekend of the Lizzard Tag Team on the North KZN Coast. But the Tag team is only for u16 surfers so all u20 and open men and women can do the North Swell. We encourage all u16 surfers to surf in the tag team event.

Lizzard often have their Tag Team on the Saturday, and if this is the case surfers can surf in both events. The Lizzard on the Saturday and the North Swell on the Sunday.

FINAL DAY

KZN win Freedom Cup at 2008 Reef Wetsuits SA National Junior Surfing Championships presented by Ocean & Earth SA

KwaZulu-Natal claimed provincial honours and the Freedom Cup on the final day of the 2008 Reef Wetsuits SA National Junior Championships presented by Ocean & Earth SA at St Michaels on Sea on the KZN South Coast today (Sunday October 5) when they beat defending champions and arch rivals Western Province by 1254 points.

Although Western Province surfers won three titles to KZN's two the Durban team’s depth and number of finalists saw them win back the trophy that they last held in 2005. KZN deservedly won the Best Team Trophy for their solid war cry, wholehearted team spirit and support of each other throughout the championships.

The Freedom Cup victory was the main goal of the KZN side and a solid performance by a whole host of finalists is the reason why the trophy is on its way back to Surf City.
