AGM postponed to Wed 24 March 2010

Dear Surfers and Parents
KZNSA is holding its AGM on Thursday 18th March 2010 at Durban Surf Club at 6pm. We need every single member/ parent to attend this meeting and help us to chart the direction of the KZNSA, as there are a lot of challenges ahead.
For a number of years, a handful of volunteer parents have held KZNSA together and this has resulted in a lot of burn-out.
For the past year , KZNSA secretary Julie de Vries has held the surfing association together and has gone way, way beyond the call of duty to ensure that KZNSA is the champion province that it is today (winning both the senior and junior championships last year). But it is not humanly possible for one person to sustain all that Julie does . KZNSA urgently needs new blood and more people to help spread the load and ensure that we continue to grow in strength and capacity.
In addition, the current economic recession has seen KZNSA lose its title sponsor midway through the contract, which made it very difficult to continue to function. We need assistance with fundraising and provide financial incentives for those who assist to secure sponsorship.
There are also some exciting new opportunities in development surfing and we need to be able to fundraise to support the clubs that have affiliated to KZNSA.
We thus propose to expand the Executive Committee to 10 people, plus two surfer representatives. The portfolios are as follows:
Chairperson: convene and chair meetings, steer committee and provide direction, represent KZNSA at SSA meetings; fundraising
Vice-Chairperson: support chairperson and deputise; fundraising
Secretary: (Paid position): correspondence, contest entries, calendar, co-ordination of activities; fundraising
Treasurer/ Bookkeeper: managing the money, drawing up budgets; fundraising.
Contest Co-ordinator : logistical arrangements for trials and KZN contests
Events Co-ordinator (Logistical arrangements for events such a prize-givings, fundraisers etc)
Equipment Manager (in charge of trailer and equipment including sound equipment, siren etc)
Development Manager (liaise with development clubs)
Schools Manager (promote surfing at schools, liaise with schools surf teams)
Public Relations (media liaison, website, co-ordinating photos)
All paid up members in good standing for 2010 (either you or your child/ren must have paid 2010 affiliation fees) are eligible to vote at the AGM and propose people for the above positions. If you are unable to attend, the chairperson will accept proxy votes up to 24 hours before the AGM.
For the sake of surfing in this province, we urge people to come forward and get involved. Some of the portfolios are very big and need sub-committees so we would also appreciate people volunteering to assist. A task shared is a task halved!
